Lost In Cult Disects Horror Gaming in 'The Horror: MANSION'
Preorders are now available for the hardcover anthology
For years, we’ve explored decrepit hallways and dank basements, all in search of a thrill that only horror games can offer. In a collaboration with video game merchandising company Fangamer, Lost In Cult is revisiting many of these dilapidated buildings and sprawling castles in The Horror: MANSION, a 200+ page journey into the unknown.Â
Lost In Cult, best known for its video game history preservation efforts, has compiled a collection of beautifully horrific artwork from some of gaming’s most notable artists and indie developers. Gareth Damien Martin (Citizen Sleeper), Trevor Henderson (Siren Head), Toby Fox (Undertale), and many, many more have been tapped to help readers visualize the terrors slinking about the most infamous haunted halls of the horror genre.
The Horror: MANSION will revisit classics like Alone in the Dark, Resident Evil, Clock Tower, House of the Dead, and Sweet Home to detail the long and complex history of horror gaming. Interviews and essays pepper the hardcover volume, dissecting the evolution of horror, the art of the scare, and our infatuation with the macabre.Â
Not to get caught in the past, MANSION will also profile modern independent horror titles, from the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired World of Horror to the underwater extraterrestrial horrors of Iron Lung.Â
Expanding the HorrorÂ
Each preorder of The Horror: MANSION is a step toward achieving several stretch goals meant to build upon Lost In Cult’s already expansive anthology horror book. The stretch goals are as follows:
1,500 Units
The book will feature black edges and debossed elements on the illustrated hardcover.
2,000 Units
Additional art will be commissioned to expand upon the terrifying collection.Â
2,500 Units
38 pages will be added, featuring more essays, interviews, and artwork.
3,000 Units
Glow-in-the-dark elements will be added to the cover.
The Horror: MANSION is currently available for preorder at Fangamer.com for $42 and is expected to ship in August 2024. There is no confirmation as to whether reaching any of the stretch goals will push the release date.
This reveal comes a month after Bitmap Books announced From Ants to Zombies: Six Decades of Video Game Horror. Launching on Halloween 2023, From Ants to Zombies traverses 60 years of horror gaming across 600 illustrated pages.
